This morning before leaving to work:

Found this while searching something else through the net. CUTE!

I have the yarns - now waiting for an inspiration

I'm dreaming about starting a new hobby. Last summer I got a few rolls of embroidery yarn from my grandmother and the dream has been growing... About a month a go I was in Helsinki in a fabulous hobby-book-shoppe and I laid my eyes on this book. (That book shop was a little too much on my craft-loving heart and also for my wallet so I don't actually have that book).

I love new ways to do old things so I didn't want to start embroidering roses or daffodills that don't mean anything to me. I needed fresh thinking. And look what I found: Jetis and cute floral chaos! Yeah! (the jetis are made by Megan Whitmarsh, whose handwritten website is really fine)

Today I find this illustration irresistible to look at

This is an illustration from The very first Nancy Drew book, The Secret of the Old Clock. (Was written in 1929 and published in 1930). Today is my day off from work and I feel worn out (that damned flu) and the weather is grey and windy. I find myself asking "Would this stop Nancy Drew from solving secrets and crimes?!" NO way!

Who is the artist behind this picture? I would love to see some more!

I was looking for the doll garden again. Dang: it can't be found! BUUUT as always I noted something good anyway! The magical illustration on the packaging of Nicola Roberts' make-up range for Jelly Pong Pong. Then ofcourse I was trying to find out who the illustrator is but so far I found nothing. (I've been a bit sick lately... does a flu prevent you to finding-nice-things-from-google? By the way, the best part of this picture is the tear on the fishnet stockings!

And I was the fool who tought that the gardening season is ending

I saw a hilarious gardening program (from BBC) today. The idea was to introduce very different gardens and my favourite of them all was the garden of costume designer Rosa Diaz who lives in Twickenham. She had decorated her garden with dolls and fake flowers. Usually gardening is amazingly strict and boring for me so I really got exited about this. She says ‘People have started to leave dolls on my doorstep. My garden has become an orphanage for lost dolls." And that older people sometimes see horror-horror in it! But really it's garden that was made for fun and children usually like it.

It's a shame I didn't find more pictures of it from the net...Maybe she has changed her name or something, but you can imagine a small garden with dolls everywhere :) and a fence made from knitting needels of various colours.

Things that inspire me this morning

  • Buttons are always fun. I collect them. (Picture is not from my collection, byt I found it very funny. If I had a spare room I would make it my sewing room and this picture would be hangin on the door!)
  • Modern poetry by Johanna Venho- it's funny how you think poetry is old, dusty and in no way linked to my feelings and then you hear something so mythic and ironic from the radio while driving to work. This is a treat! I'm sorry it's not been translated..
  • Jaakko is home and made me tea.
  • My mind is full of ideas about making miniatures, decorating the house, knitting! (Only I have 10 days full row of work! 6 work days to go. Lucily I like my work ;))
  • I'm happy that the fall seems to began and summer is behind. Summer is full of expectation and stress about how good the summer is, WELL the fall is nothing like this. It's faithfull and steady. I'm at my best at fall.

hedgehog and labradorian

These are pictures of the wild animals here ;) I crocheted the hedgehog and it is my own design (that's a big word for this tongue-in-cheek thingy) and is to be a housewarming gift for my dear friend who had to move to Helsinki because of her work. (The pale pink button that is the eye of this creature used to be on my trousers. I inherited the trousers from my diear aunt adn messed them with cup cace on the way to see my newborn little brothers in 1992! My mother had thrown away the trousers but kept the button)

And the dog below is the greatest stick-friend I'll ever known; Audi the labradorian (yes, he is not a golden retriever - I thought so too). There seem to be a stick broblemo or maybe even a little panic in the picture :D

Most beautifull thing today = BLYTHE

Today I came across dolls that really pleasure my eye. I started to remember a doll from an old add I saw some years back and started searching the net. Then I found out I wasn't the only one whose eye they please :D Beacause the dolls - called Blythe had an enthusiastic group of collectors and other fans. I'm so happy I found this cool web site! Aren't they perfect! And the clothes! It would make me ever so happy if I would bumb into one of these lovelies, say, in the second hand shop and the price would be right (=low).

That is the link to my Facebook pictures. I've painted two days (summer cabin, not art) and I have to say it's a workout to remember. Ache in every part of my body. Well I'm going to continue painting soon, because I'm only visiting the mainland and the island-life calls me now that I've got clean clothes. Pictures will follow. Also pictures of Tahvo the dog's new friend and idol:a big labradorian called Audi :D
